I'm not sure, I haven't really thought about that.

I guess one has to consider several points when making the decision
to change the default.

AFAICT, the bridge priority is not as important when stp is
disabled (which it is by default) - although I haven't tested that
case, since I'm running my network with stp enabled only. On the
other hand, having a stable topology in an stp-enabled home network
by default - without knowing about the existence of the bridge
priority - is certainly a nice thing.

Also, in a WDS setup, a router might have the role of a satellite
node, and it might not be desirable to have it on a low bridge
priority by default. On the other hand, a WDS setup is far from
default in itself. And I have no experience regarding that, either.
