This choice will affect S/N. You'll probably limit the usable txpower range this way. Please use the features of the hardware. Don't hide them. Sure, all hardware supporting code will use some flash. So what? Are you going to support the hardware or not? If you aren't, then I don't think there is any value in OpenWrt.
