looks like a bug in airodump-ng, not in ath9k. i just checked on my device
and the monitor mode output captured with tcpdump looks fine.
airodump-ng (and other aircrack packages) are unmaintained. they will not
receive any fixes until somebody picks them up, submits them to github,
and maintains them.
