I correct myself again. It _was_ an actual problem indeed, but erratic in
its behaviour.
This has been tracked down to r44346 - see ticket
https://dev.openwrt.org/ticket/19144
I'm not reopening this ticket, since that one addresses the same issue but
is much better documented.
