I do have the same problem in CC. Unconditional loss of overlay. Can't
reproduce with a script that reboots the device after 60 sec.
Seems that this occurs in ~2% of all reboots after heavy writing. In my
setup the overlay is ~80% full but never 100%.
I have this behavior with kernel 3.14, too.
