#20359: Serial console password
--------------------------------------+----------------------------------

     Type: defect | Status: new
Priority: high | Milestone: Chaos Calmer (trunk)
Component: packages | Version: Trunk
 Keywords: serial console, password |
--------------------------------------+----------------------------------
 Dear all,

I would like to set a password to serial console, without recompiling
 busybox.
/bin/login is not available in Chaos Calmer snapshots.

Would it be possible to have /bin/login in a separate packate and we would
 only need to set:
 /etc/inittab
 ::askconsole:/bin/login

From a legal point of view, using computers without a password is not
allowed in some countries, including France. This would make using OpenWRT
 illegal.

Also, reading the documentation, it does not seem very clear to readers
that OpenWRT serial console is "WIDE OPEN" and that anyone can become root
in 2 seconds using two wires.

 Kind regards,
 Gnutella
