A solution, as suggested by KanjiMonster on #openwrt, is to leave out
kernel symbol table information instead of stripping kernel exports. Hence
the protocol about now stands as:

For the HEAD (be73b965acbf4), this produces a openwrt-ar71xx-generic-
uImage-lzma.bin file of size 1042938.
