There is also a problem with the length of interface name in uci config.
Length >13 causes troubles with firewall reloads - problably the same
issue as OP describes. Length >12 causes problems with dnsmasq. Seems that
max length of iface for dnsmasq is 12 - you can see it on logread when
host requests for an ip.
