I have been using iwinfo in several routers (dlink & tplink) and
different versions and noticed that i never get the full/proper output
with it for wlan0 regardless of the router i am using. However i am able
to get almost full information if i do it with a virtual interface.
Example:
iwinfo wlan0 info
wlan0 ESSID: "mesh.net"
Access Point: 02:23:B4:6C:0D:6A
Mode: Master Channel: 11 (2.462 GHz)
Tx-Power: 20 dBm Link Quality: 0/70
Signal: unknown Noise: -95 dBm
Bit Rate: unknown
Encryption: none
Type: nl80211 HW Mode(s): 802.11bgn
Hardware: unknown [Generic MAC80211]
TX power offset: unknown
Frequency offset: unknown
Supports VAPs: yes
iwinfo wlan0-1 info
wlan0-1 ESSID: "mesh.net"
Mode: Ad-Hoc Channel: 11 (2.462 GHz)
Tx-Power: 20 dBm Link Quality: 43/70
Signal: -67 dBm Noise: -95 dBm
Bit Rate: 19.5 MBit/s
Encryption: none
Type: nl80211 HW Mode(s): 802.11bgn
Hardware: unknown [Generic MAC80211]
TX power offset: unknown
Frequency offset: unknown
Supports VAPs: yes
For wlan0 i get no signal value, bit rate, encryption, hardware, tx
power and frequency
For wlan0-1 not much more and in the case of encryption; the
configuration does have WEP enabled; yet it is shown as none.
How can this be solved of is it a limitation of the software ?
Also regarding the link quality:
Is the link quality the same as SNR for openwrt or it uses some other
type of measurement system ?
If i am not mistaken SNR= signal - noise. In this case = -28.
How is the link quality calculated for openwrt ?
