I like using ferm, which provides syntatic sugar for iptables and,
IIRC tc stuff too.  Ultimately, there is no substitute for 
understanding what you're doing but it's nice to have 
something that reads.  Ferm is also good for small
memory devices since you can "compile" it on a
different box.
