Hi, I'm evaluating whether or not to use a rootfs on external storage [1] for an OpenWRT-based project, and I'd like to ask people about their experience with this setup.
Specifically, I'm interested in how reliable generic USB sticks are for running a rootfs in the long-term over the reasonable lifetime of a wireless router. The filesystem would have some steady updates although a lot of these (eg. logging) could be batched. Does anyone here have experience with this kind of setup? There seems to be a lot of anecdotal evidence suggesting that USB sticks are unreliable, but the little actual research on this topic I can find suggests otherwise [2]. Thanks, Martin [1] http://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/howto/extroot [2] http://www.ccs.neu.edu/home/pjd/papers/fast10-flash.pdf _______________________________________________ openwrt-users mailing list [email protected] https://lists.openwrt.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/openwrt-users
