Hi,

I'm evaluating whether or not to use a rootfs on external storage [1] for an
OpenWRT-based project, and I'd like to ask people about their experience
with this setup.

Specifically, I'm interested in how reliable generic USB sticks are for
running a rootfs in the long-term over the reasonable lifetime of a wireless
router. The filesystem would have some steady updates although a lot of
these (eg. logging) could be batched.

Does anyone here have experience with this kind of setup? There seems to be
a lot of anecdotal evidence suggesting that USB sticks are unreliable, but
the little actual research on this topic I can find suggests otherwise [2].

Thanks,

Martin
