if you can indulge me, some beginner-level questions regarding
openwrt as it's been a while since i've played with it (last built and
used kamikaze). so ...

if i'm interested only in working with the bleeding-edge version,
need i check out and use just the current git repo, master branch?
is that sufficient? or, depending on the target board, would i need to
add any other target-specific remotes to that? (i'm particularly
interested in ramips/mt7620a.)

if i'm using that git master branch, does that also track the
development of the packages as well? if i "git pull" to update
openwrt, would that necessitate my rerunning the packages update and
install script?

i can see the tex-based docs in the docs/ directory. are these docs
also published online and kept up to date so that i don't need to
install all the tex-based packages on my fedora rawhide system just to
format and read them?

i can see that the git repo has no actual tags to identify released
or "rc" versions, and that the svn ids are used to track releases. i
found this page:

 https://code.google.com/p/openwrt-git/

describing the conversion process to get tags if you want them. is
that page still accurate?

  more later ...
