Though my words won't help, I'd like to tell you what I think. If you do want to boot a MTxxxx class device up, the problems you may meet are:1.How to get one copy of source code for the device.2.How to modify the source code so that you can compile it without any error.3.As kernel updated frequently, how can you make it work all the time, restructure it? In theory, SoC and radio chip are two different things and they can work correctly as long as there are drivers to them, and you can build the driver bit by bit.
Actually, only a small part of MTK's products released corresponding device drivers.Mention to the source code they released, I can use the word ridiculous to comment it, it mostly ONLY support Linux 2.4-2.6, but now, the year is approaching 2015! And, building a driver is not an easy thing. I've bought some devices which MTxxxx series chips are in them. They're cheap and they can be seen everywhere in the market, and I'm in PRC. For a developer, they are expensive, they take lots of time but what you can get are endless warnings and errors. In conclusion, as a developer I'd buy one device have Broadcom chip in it ,in spite of that may cost more than times comparing to the MTxxxx ones. A friend of mine had sent me some internal documents *illegally* at the time I was struggling with MTxxxx devices, the grey word of 'secret' in Chinese is larger than any word in any page.Further more, there's a saying goes "Opensource is just a free worker for those who sells software and hardware". So, don't wait or struggle any more, it's just a waste of time. Opensource communities surely want support more hardware but the truth is some manufacturers would never allow that happened, never! ------------------------------------------------------I believe, I won't leave, 'cause it's my life !
