continuing in my adventures to flash *some* mediatek-based system,
based on the ramips openwrt build, i bought a d-link dir-810l given
that someone seems to have built and flashed it (and, yes, i'm aware
that wireless is still the issue, i'll worry about that in stage 2):

  https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?id=46825

as a first test, i upgraded that router with the newest official
d-link firmware and that worked fine -- just verifying that at least
that part works.

next obvious test was to try to flash with the openwrt pre-built
image openwrt-ramips-mt7620a-dir-810l-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin from
here:

https://downloads.openwrt.org/barrier_breaker/14.07/ramips/mt7620a/

but got:

"The uploaded firmware file may not be correct ..."

looking at the openwrt wiki page for the dir-810l:

  http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/d-link/dir-810l

i get the impression that i can't use the d-link factory firmware to
reflash with openwrt, i need to set up the serial console. i can do
that but due to the aforementioned DNS issues, i can't display the
image of the board's serial TTL pinout.

so, what is the proper way to reflash a dir-810l? i believe i have
everything i need for this, i just need to know the recipe, given that
others pretty clearly have done it. thanks.
