entirely possible that you just shouldn't do this, but since the
default wifi config for my dual-band tp-link router sets both bands to
the same SSID ("OpenWrt"), i was wondering about some odd behaviour
when configuring wifi through the GUI (Network -> Wifi). (some of this
is from memory from yesterday.)
first, Network -> Wifi, and i can see both bands
* radio1, Channel 11 (2.462 GHz)
* radio0, Channel 36 (5.180 GHz)
so everything seems fine so far.
first oddity is if i select, say, 2.4G band and "Scan". what i saw
yesterday when scanning from the 2.4G band were the two 5G access
points in the vicinity, which i thought was weird. conversely, if i
scan from the 5G band, i appear to see *only* the visible 2.4G access
points. isn't that kind of backwards? how is this *supposed* to
behave?
also, if i select to "Edit" the 2.4G band, i get to the Device
Configuration screen (General Setup), and i can see the "Channel"
drop-down selection, which currently (correctly) contains the value
11. but if i select that value, the drop-down list i get contains
the list:
11
36
40
44
48
... etc etc ...
all 5G channels.
conversely, if i Edit the 5G band the same way and select Channel,
the list contains:
36
1
2
3
... snip ...
11
auto
-- custom --
and that's it. in short, the channel choices for the 2.4G band are
the 5G frequencies, and the channel choices for the 5G band are the
2.4G frequencies.
assuming that this just isn't right, is it because the bands have
the same SSID? and even if that's something you should avoid, the wifi
configuration should still make more sense.
