for once, not looking to complain about anything. :-) i'm interested
in recommendations for relatively high-end, dual-band routers or eval
boards for the various architectures that are openwrt-friendly and can
be flashed off the shelf. my goal is to have a working example of the
various chipsets just for experimentation.

  each system can be either an already-available commercial router
that can be ripped open, or a readily-available eval board/dev kit,
with decent flash and RAM to handle sizable builds.

  bonus points for:

  * easily accessible console port
  * USB port(s)
  * PCIe slot, ideally *not* already being used in case i want to
    add a broadband modem

  as one example, i quite like my qualcomm-based TP-LINK Archer C7 V2,
whose only drawback is that the PCIe slot is already used for the 5G
radio card. so unless there's a notably better example out there, i
think i've found my atheros-based system.

  so what about broadcom? or freescale? i'm going to peruse the ToH
this weekend, and even the git log to see recent developments, but if
someone already has a pointer, that would be great. as i still
consider myself a newbie at some aspects of wireless networking, i'm
probably forgetting something.

  and i'm still willing to donate a router if that would be of value
to some poor developer somewhere.
