On one build system where I am now, any attempt to activate the "oldpackages" feed and update/install it generates the error:

... snip ...
Create index file './feeds/oldpackages.index'
grep: feeds/oldpackages.index/Binary: No such file or directory
grep: file: No such file or directory
grep: matches/Makefile: No such file or directory
... snip ...

However, on another development system, the above works just fine. The difference is that the first system (where the error occurs) is connected to a restricted network that doesn't allow certain protocols like git. Is there something about trying to activate, update and install a feed for the first time that requires something special, like access to git, that isn't necessary after that?

A colleague who saw this happen on my system snickered at me, then stopped laughing when he went back to his desk, tried the same thing on the same network, and got the same error. Thoughts?
