It would appear maybe I didn't try everything on the wiki. As I was running up another 4300 today, I re-read the 'troubleshooting' section. I found that by increasing the global option 'delay_root' to '15', as suggested, made the pivot overlay work. Just thought I'd best update this thread in case anyone else misses this.
