I have one unit of TD_W8980 v1 in my lab.According to OpenWrt
(https://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/start?dataflt[Model*~]=8980#), it is not
mentioned which OpenWrt code is compatible with this hardware?
Any thought?

Devices based on Intel/Lantiq SoCs are supported in OpenWrt including
support for the DSL part. I would suggest to buy a DSL router based on
the VRX2xx line of SoCs.
