You don't store the mirror on the box. You store it elsewhere, and you do it 
smartly. There's a difference between mirroring the site, wiki and 
image/package downloads. The PHP project might be a good place to look for 
inspiration. They have a mirroring programme.

As for I/o killing the box, maybe it would help to know the conditions under 
which that happens and what solutions have already been tried.

Does anyone on this list know of other projects using mirrors and what they do?
