Oops. My message of 27.06 is wrong. I messed things up by creating too many 
soft links for bash at my testing host.

Also, my message of 23.06 is fully correct.

So I tried to fix this problem in Revs: 1268 and 1269
in such a way that all should work on arbitrary unix.

Please test.
