first of all please apologize my missing answer to your last message. I have 
not forgotten it - the questions raised are just not that easy to cover...

You rightfully raised some concerns I did not have in mind when I modified 
vergen. I agree we need to find a sensible way to support the FreeBSD Ports and 
nightly builds.

However, I also sincerely wish to finally get rid of SVN entirely. My efforts 
were geared towards supporting Git and neglecting SVN, knowing that we will 
eventually ditch it. I didn't mean to break things for the FreeBSD Ports.

I think this is a really good idea and will solve our immediate problem nicely. 
Hey, it's called a nightly snapshot for a reason, isn't it?
