From the MySQL documentation: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.6/en/select.html Begin of cite: You are permitted to specify DUAL as a dummy table name in situations where no tables are referenced: mysql> SELECT 1 + 1 FROM DUAL; -> 2 DUAL is purely for the convenience of people who require that all SELECT statements should have FROM and possibly other clauses. MySQL may ignore the clauses. MySQL does not require FROM DUAL if no tables are referenced. End of cite. BTW according to the MySQL documentation, INNER statements are supported today but I am not a MySQL admin. http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.6/en/expressions.html Best regards Michael -- ___________________________________________________________________ Michael Bell Humboldt-Universitaet zu Berlin Tel.: +49 (0)30-2093 70143 ZE Computer- und Medienservice Fax: +49 (0)30-2093 70135 Unter den Linden 6 [email protected] D-10099 Berlin ___________________________________________________________________ PGP Fingerprint: 09E4 3D29 4156 2774 0F2C C643 D8BD 1918 2030 5AAB
