No, this is the exact error message you get when something is missing
from your XML configuration file. Granted, it is not very readable at
the moment, but in essence it means that no entry was found at the given
xpath ...

Sorry to insist, but are you sure it is the config file that is being
used by the server? Did you try starting with an explicit
$ openxpkictl start --config /path/to/config.xml
with a config.xml which references this log_database.xml?
