You are right, the current documentation leaves the task of setting up an HTTPS protected Apache virtual host wrapping the sample configuration shipped with OpenXPKI as an exercise to the reader. There's no single correct way to configure the web server, every setup and environment is different. Please refer to the Apache documentation on setting up HTTPS or refer to the large amount on hands-on documentation available on the Internet.
