the package should install default.html - just make a copy or a symlink to index.html and you should be good to go.

This tells me I likely have gotten something wrong in the virtual host
configuration but I am unable to determine what.  I have diff'ed the
configuration file against the example but the differences I detect are all
related to the different fs layout used by FreeBSD: /usr/local/www/ or the
listening address and virtualhost directives.

I suspect that I am not the first to run into this so any hints as to what i
may have misconfigured I would appreciate.
