None of my users currently experience such a problem, but there is another one: GMail sends invites to [email protected] _e-mails_ where the JID is taken from user's roster. Of course, the e-mail fails to get delivered and the user gets some sort of Delivery Status Notification. As far as I know, the GMail user should use integrated jabber web-client to trigger "the feature".
