First let me say that I am sorry for all the trouble the build system
has caused. No, really. But I think that the worst is behind us now. If
I were to do it again, I would set up more test systems up front.
Many want to have a way of building everything in one go, like
dunecontrol do for autotools, but also with dependencies between the
projects.
I have created an "umbrella" project which demonstrate how to build most
of the suite in one go. Instructions and code at:

The steps listed in the README there have been tested on Ubuntu 12.04. I
am currently testing it on CentOS 6.3 (except there you must use cmake28
instead of cmake).
