Dear developers, We have got quite far with this release, and I think we should try to mostly freeze the build system pretty soon (today). I think that a fully flexible build system that lets us build any way we want is nice to have, we cannot spend much more time improving the system, as long as it lets us build in reasonable ways on platforms that matter. I suggest that the following build-methods should be characterised as 'supported' and all other ways should be ignored.
1. Using dunecontrol to build all modules at once, including the dune core modules. 2. Using cmake to build our modules one by one but in the same directory, with all deps either in system locations or specified locations (this is what I do). Both methods should work on a. Ubuntu 12.04. b. RHEL 5. At least one of the methods should work on c. OpenSUSE (recent) d. Mac OS X e. Ubuntu 10.04 All other combinations should not trigger more work on the build system for this release. Feel free to disagree, but do so quickly. I want the release to be out before the end of next week, and we still have some significant work to do.
