Hi James,
Gentoo and Arch linux are a couple of prominent rolling distro examples.
I use Gentoo.
Me too.
Are the OPM ebuilds available in one of the overlays, e.g. science such as
PETSc?
How easy would it be to get them in there?
Rob
Excellent!
OK so, Jouni and I worked together. Jouni actually created the ebuilds,
so I need to get his permission. I have them locally, I'm not sure where
he has put them on the net. Let me dig a bit and get back to you.
These ebuilds are are "rough drafts" and definitely need more testing
and refinement. Part of the problem was as these ebuilds were being
created, and we did some digging, it appears as though some project
reorganization, naming, inter-dependencies etc etc are fundamentally
needed with the OPM project; that's where the work stopped.
PETSc is not in an ebuild yet. That was the point of discussion on
supporting multiple math codes into OPM. Dune is about 90% complete,
with needed refinement on exactly what the flags are and what they do.
Some more arguments (configurations) need refinement and a wee bit more
detail.
Continuing the thread:
Here are some links that show what Gentoo is working on so that the rank
and file users can "offer up patches" whilst keeping the dev(s) firmly
in control:

Once some basic architecture changes are implemented in how the codes
(modules) are organized, the ebuilds can be finished quickly, including
support for various competing math codes and such.
If fact, these gentoo ebuilds, being straightforward scripts, can server
as the basis of documentation on how these codes all inter-relate
and inter-operate.

James
