OSX will probably give you the exact same challenges as the current macOS. Basically we do not support MPI on Macs. We are still working on simplifying the compilation of MPI binaries on Linux, so it may be a rocky ride to try it on a Mac. On supported Linux distributions we have MPI enabled binaries packaged, and it is invoked in the standard way with mpirun.
