Assuming "this data" in your question refers to the network interfaces
and/or IP stack, I wouldn't agree that this is only interesting for a
router/switch. The network ends at the endpoint, not at the forwarding
device. Troubleshooting a networking problem often requires troubleshooting
the endpoint configuration of the relevant interfaces (and interface-using
applications), not just the router/switch.
