Hello
I think I have an excellent idea for improving host configuration.
When adding a service check to a host the is an option to change the
parameters of this plugin.
This I great, but..
Lets say you want to monitor few different objects by this plugin on one
machine and said plugin can only check one object at a time. For instance a
check for windows hard drives.
Than you have to create few service checks using the same plugin with
different parameters.
Like:
Check_Drive_C - parameter: C, 10, 20
Check_Drive_D - parameter: D, 20, 40
Check_Drive_G - parameter: G, 200, 250
Etc..
And in case you have multiple machines on which you have to call this check
with defferent of parameters the situation get more complicated.
You could use the same checks and enable exceptions to change the parameters
but than the servie check name would not match witch the checked object
(Check_Drive_C - parameter: C, Check_Drive_D - parameter: E, Check_Drive_G
- parameter: F, etc).
In my case - monitoring windows drives requires me to have service checks
for virtually every letter in the alphabet.
So the best way to utilize exceptions IMHO is this: create a dummy service
check for each set of arguments.
When you click on a exception icon a mini-tree is created.
The root being the service check and the branch containing 3 fields:
text box for arguments
text box for a new name
a "plus" button for adding a new branch
In host status windows this check could be seen as multiple checks looking
no different than the rest..
