Everything seemed to go smoothly with the update, but since Friday, MRTG just takes over my system. Memory utilization has skyrocketed, and I'm getting false alerts because of this. Suddenly OPSView cannot communicate to routers/switches/servers, but I can telnet/ssh to them. The OPSView web server becomes unresponsive, and when it does respond it is error prone:Error retrieving update from Opsview. Will continue to retry.

Eventually I do get a display, and it is lit up like a Christmas tree ... very unnerving. I have disabled all alerting because of the false positives.

The server is Ubuntu Hardy, 2 Gig RAM, 80 GB mirrored HD. 146 Hosts, 1111 services.

What is your version of MRTG?

We made a change where MRTG connects to your device based on whether you use SNMPv2c or SNMPv1 (it always defaulted to SNMPv1 before). My guess is that this is hanging (maybe firewall?) and so each 5 minute MRTG process is staying around.
