The slave setup guide should be sufficient for anybody with basic
Linux/UNIX knowledge - from my point of view. But it seems you're
desperately trying to the your slave up and running, I'll try to clarify
things, though this is not the scope of this mailing list.

If you follow the slave setup guide on docs.opsview.org, you reach point
4 "On the master server, copy the nagios SSH public key from the master
to the slave server", see [1].

Therefore you need a working SSH daemon on master and slave, which
should be as easy as 'sudo apt-get install openssh-client
openssh-server' on Ubuntu, furthermore you have to open ports at the
network-devices involved, a 'grep ssh /etc/services' reveals, that
ssh(d) is utilizing port 22. So open port 22 on involved
switches/routers. Now you should be able to perform an ssh login from
master to slave and vice-versa and 'ssh-copy-id' from point 4 of the
slave setup guide should work flawlessly.

I hope this helps
