No - the initial build should be as it is straight out of svn of the tarballs 
to prove the process works - then, as you add you own patches if the rpmbuild 
process fails you know its to do with your changes

This method of rpmbuild is how we build the rpm's we release - all patches are 
applied and binaries built using them
