It is useful for end-to-end encryption for instance using with Gmail. Tor does not provide you end-to-end encryption, your traffic is encrypted only through exit node. If you are using SSL website, your traffic is accessible to website, because website has SSL keys. With GPG your traffic is encrypted/decrypted on your own machine. P.
