Making a deb-package with checkinstall fails here:
        dpkg-deb - Error: (upstream) version (»dev«) contains no numbers
        dpkg-deb: 1 Error in control-file

I never had this error with stable tor-versions so I think it's just with the 
developer-version but in order to make the testing of dev-versions more nicer 
you should consider fixing the control-files in future dev-versions to some 
dpkg-valid ones.
