*Key skills are:*
• *SQL *coding with experience on *MS SQL Server 2005* and *2008*
• Expert knowledge of *replication* and *ETL concepts* and *technologies*
• *Application database tier programming experience* - e.g. *ORM, Spring
JDBC*
• *Database Replication*
• *DB Design / Architect
*•* TDD, TFD,* is a plus but not required
Notes that Brian Kennedy took while speaking with Chris Rowan:
• Must be an expert at query performance analysis and tuning (preferably
using *SQL Profiler* and *SQL Trace*)
• Must have experience with very large scale production environments with
strict SLAs/uptime requirements; should understand concurrency/locking
issues that would prevent certain types of maintenance scripts from being
run while users are on the system
• Should understand normalized and de-normalized data structures; previous
database design experience would be a plus
• Know how to generate *SQL* “*from SQL*”; for example, write queries
against the system tables to produce DDL create/alter/drop scripts, or write
scripts that would produce other scripts like test data creation
• Understand *SQL Server Agent’s role* and how to work with it
