*Position Details*

DHS - Data Warehouse Data Modeler including the following:

*Required Skills*

•         6 Years Data Warehouse Modeling experience

•         4 Years Teradata Utilities experience

•         3 Years ERWIN experience

•         3 Years of SQL Assistant experience



*Preferred but not Required Skills*

•         Teradata version 14.0 experience

•         Data Warehouse DBA experience

•         Data mapping experience

•         Performance tuning

•         Business Analyst experience

•         Experience with the State of Michigan PMM/SUITE/Agile methodology

•         Needs to be able to work independently and not rely on the State
or other team members

•         Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with
programmers, analysts, immediate supervisor, management, system users,
operations, other State agencies and the private sector.

•         Meet with users for clarification and elaboration as may be
necessary to clearly define a problem and conceptualize a development plan.

•         Recognize, gather, correlate, and analyze facts, draw
conclusions, define problems, and devise solutions and alternatives and
make appropriate recommendations.

•         Working with the BAs and developers, facilitate modification of
the logical design to create a physical design most suited to the reporting
needs of the customer.

•         Ability to design applications taking into consideration data
reconciliation, (to the source system) query/reporting performance, and
analytical business value.

•         Data Modeler experience with State of Michigan and/or Department
of Human Services business areas including Juvenile Justice and/or SACWIS
related business background.

Potential Work Request Description from the State given prior positions

*Technical support is required to assist with the following tasks:*



1.     The Data Warehouse Modeler will be is responsible for the layout and
navigability of a database. This involves defining the tables, keys, and
relationships that will allow an application to retrieve and update data
correctly and efficiently. This may include tasks such as:

•         Working with end users and developers to understand the data
needs of DHS clients.

•         Documenting the DHS data warehouse data including definitions,
constraints, and access needs.

•         Creating and maintaining DHS data warehouse logical designs,
including Entity Relationship diagrams, which illustrate what data will be
stored, how it is organized, how it can be retrieved (keys) and how it
relates to other data in the database.



•         Creating and maintaining DHS data warehouse data definition
language (DDL) that can be used to create and update the database.

•         Working with the DHS Data Warehouse DBA and ETL developers,
modify the logical design to create a physical design most suited to the
database environment and the applications that will use it.

•         Work with DHS Data Warehouse DBA and ETL developers to create and
maintain database design standards.

2.     The Data Warehouse Modeler will be expected to work with agency
requestors to define and develop new queries, and provide training and
technical support to both DTMB developers and end user query developers.
Their report development related tasks may include:

•         Working with end user requestors to understand their data needs
and create and implement solutions for those needs.

•         Develop and present training classes for end user developers to
help them learn how to most effectively use the data warehouse platform and
the BI tools available to them to support their own data needs where
possible.

•         Develop and present training classes for DTMB developers to
better understand how to use the BI development tools to create and
implement reporting solutions using the data warehouse.

•         Provide one on one support for developers and end users to assist
them in accomplishing their data reporting needs.

3.     The Data Warehouse Modeler is also expected to be able to perform
application development tasks in support of building business intelligence
applications and integrating data warehouse resources into other Agency
applications. Their development related activities may include tasks such
as:

•         Creating data warehouse based applications including reporting,
dashboards and other information analysis and delivery systems.

•         Extract, Transform, and Load systems to move data from the
various operational systems in which it is collected to a cleansed,
consolidated data warehouse.

•         SQL development.

•         Work with developers and end user query developers to design and
improve database queries.

•         Train developers in how best to design queries for a specific
database.
