Required Skills: Must have 7+ years of experience as an Oracle DBA Experience in an Enterprise-Level environment Experience patching and upgrading databases Experience with RAC Experience performance tuning Shell scripting experience Familiarity with Backup and Recovery of Oracle RMAN Excellent communication skills Must be confident enough to ask for help when needed Must multi-task while staying detail oriented Must be okay with being on-call every 7-8 weeks for one week at a time Desired Skills: PCI compliance familiarity Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science Description of Role/Responsibilities: We are looking for a Senior Oracle DBA to hit the ground running with a well known company in Columbus, Ohio. Ideal candidates will have experience in a UNIX environment supporting multi-terabyte databases. Responsibilities will include: patching, upgrading installing, replicating, scripting and modifying databases. This person will also be in charge of communicating and collaborating with the development teams working on your assigned applications. We are only looking for individuals with excellent communication skills and the confidence to ask for assistance or clarification when needed. Additional Internal Information: 6 DBA’s in the group that are supporting 150 Oracle Databases range from 7 Terabytes to smaller Unix (AIX), Oracle10gR2, 11gR1/2 & 12c MS SQL Server The group has a suite of apps that are all grouped into programs for example, .com, merchandise management, merchandise support, warehouse … DBA’s will be responsible for the apps in their group. Try to stay really hands on with the App Dev teams, QA, etc. to stay up to date with what is coming down the pipeline. You are responsible for the databases of your applications. For example, if something is wrong with security of the app, you would make those decisions. Break down their work into 3 groups: 1)Called KLTO (Keep the lights on) : Make sure databases are working, check alerts, this is highest priority 2)External projects : Those projects your apps are trying to accomplish 3) Internal projects: This would be like automating password resets – least priority Soft skills: MUST BE ABLE TO LISTEN AND ASK QUESTIONS … Have to have the confidence and demeanor to ask for things from the other groups, communication, Brian is big on being able to learn and get along with other DBA’s and other people in IT. 50/50 hands on support vs. projects.
