Role: Linux Systems Engineer Location: MA Duration: 3 Months Contract Rate: $45-50/HR Max *Description:* Experience with Veritas Clustering Server to include installation, configuration and support of the product, highly preferred. Will work on the Support of the order management and database upgrade project. Also responsible for implementation and on-going technical support of the Staples LINUX environment. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, day-to-day technical support, proactive monitoring and management, evaluation of new and emerging technologies, development of standards, and the ability to lead large projects across platform teams. * Proactively monitors infrastructure for optimal performance and provides input for capacity planning * Supports development activities and manages projects, and efforts that require specialized infrastructure skills * Defines infrastructure requirements for the implementation of new applications * Provides technical support for Staples' business unit representatives and IS organizations as required * Maintains relationships with third party technical support providers * Participates in the evaluation of new products and services * Identifies areas where existing policies and procedures require change or where new ones need to be developed * Develops and maintains policies and procedures, including gap analysis and periodic updates of existing procedures. * Maintains all relevant documentation * Identifies opportunities for continuous improvement * Provide mentoring, ongoing knowledge transfer and other technical guidance to junior and mid level team members * Provides technical support (including participation in a 24x7 on call rotation) for complex production systems and services *Qualifications * * Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience required * 7 - 10 years of experience as a Linux System Administrator (RedHat preferred) * RHCE certification highly desired * Familiarity with Linux build methodologies, performance tuning and memory management, and ongoing maintenance and troubleshooting * Understanding of Project management methodologies * Experience in developing scalable policies and procedures, including system standards, capacity planning, and centralized management * Excellent organizational, analytical and problem solving skills * Effective written and verbal communication skills * Scripting and programming skills (shell, awk, perl, python) * Familiarity with the following: rsync, sshd, LDAP, apache, DNS, syslogd, ntpd, net-snmp, tomcat configuration, WebSphere Suite, J2EE * Familiarity with a variety of storage technologies including SAN and NAS storage platforms * RHCE certification highly desired * Familiarity with Linux build methodologies, performance tuning and memory management, and ongoing maintenance and troubleshooting * Understanding of Project management methodologies * Experience in developing scalable policies and procedures, including system standards, capacity planning, and centralized management * Excellent organizational, analytical and problem solving skills * Effective written and verbal communication skills * Scripting and programming skills (shell, awk, perl, python) * Familiarity with the following: rsync, sshd, LDAP, apache, DNS, syslogd, ntpd, net-snmp, tomcat configuration, WebSphere Suite, J2EE * Familiarity with a variety of storage technologies including SAN and NAS storage platforms Skill/Role Level Years Preference Technical Troubleshooting Expert 7.0 Required ***** ***** ***** ***** Attention to Detail Expert 7.0 Required Customer Service Expert 7.0 Required Oral Communication Expert 7.0 Required UNIX Expert 7.0 Required Problem Solving Expert 7.0 Required Certification/Credentials Clearance -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "oraapps" group.
