This position directly supports the application database development
process within the Information Services (IS) Department. Leads in
establishing database standards and procedures; develops or evaluates
products to assist database management strategies. Approves and guides
data design efforts during application development. Participates as a
significant contributor and/or lead for designated projects, representing
the Database Administration team.****

Basic Qualifications****
****
**· **Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science,
or Information Systems****
**· **Five years of Oracle database administration and management
experience****
**· **Microsoft SQL Server database administration and management
experience is preferred****
**· **IBM DB2 administration and management as well as Tivoli TSM
database backups and recoveries experience is preferred****
**· **MySQL database administration and management knowledge is
preferred****
****
Other Requirements****

**· **Approves all application database logical designs****
**· **Leads/participates in data design for critical systems****
**· **Implements new databases and modifies existing databases.
Coordinates database changes associated with application implementations****
**· **Evaluates techniques for developing and documenting logical
and physical database designs****
**· **Establishes procedures for implementing databases****
**· **Assists applications groups with diagnosis of test or
production database application problems****
**· **Advises application development groups on principles of
data-oriented development****
**· **Assists with establishing and administering Corporate Data
Dictionary****
**· **Develops database naming and programming standards****
**· **Monitors production database activities that influence
performance****
**· **Manages production Database Management Systems (DBMS) Direct
Access Storage Device (DASD) pool for performance****
**· **Advises application groups on database performance issues
during development and after implementation****
**· **Establishes, maintains, schedules, and monitors routine
database reorganizations****
**· **Monitors application database recoverability****
**· **Assists with development of procedures and tools for routine
database recovery****
**· **Assists Technical Support and application groups with
database recoveries associated with hardware or system software failures****
**· **Develops tools to aid data administration effort****
**· **Utilizes personal computer (PC) and keyboard/mouse while
performing functions of position Overnight travel of up to 20 percent of
time away from corporate offices necessary to perform job responsibilities,
at times with very short notice****
