Sr. Java developer local to IL

Summary: The Senior Java Developer will continue to enhance the
abilities of the National Cancer Data Base (NCDB) to share information in an
accurate and flexible manner with its constituent clinicians and cancer
programs. In addition, it will also work closely with NCDB and Committee on
Cancer (CoC) staff in order to automate and convert existing applications into
more robust platforms, allowing easier management of data, and more flexible
back-end. More importantly this position will be responsible for backend
server development and data services.
Primary Responsibilities:
a.. Develop technology solutions to enhance automation of NCDB data
collection and report generation
a.. Create data architecture necessary to support NCDB analytic and
reporting activities
a.. Mentor and support other technical staff
a.. Develop meaningful, easy-to-understand, web-based reports and
comparison tools.
a.. Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None.
Physical/Work Environment- Fast paced with significant people
interaction. No lifting over 20 pounds, minimal reaching bending and stooping.
Normal office environment with long hours in front of the computer.
Required Education and/or Experience:
a.. Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field
required.
a.. Minimum of 5 years of programming experience.
a.. Solid Object Oriented Design and MVC skills.
a.. Some Experience supporting enterprise applications software, best
practices, quality assurance or software testing.
a.. Solid understanding of Java and Spring 3.x for REST/AJAX
data-services.
a.. Experience with Java Application Servers such as JBOSS 7.1/Tomcat 6.
a.. Experience with some front end design (JSP/Servlets)
a.. Experience using Source Code Management (SCM) tools - Subversion
a.. Experience with an Oracle Enterprise 11GR2 relational database.
a.. Ability to translate business needs into technical requirements and
provide expertise on solutions.
a.. Solid software engineering and design skills.
a.. Experience with Linux is a plus.
a.. Very strong communication skills (verbal and written) necessary to
effectively interact with all levels of organization.
a.. Solid troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
a.. Must be able to multi-task and work well under pressure.
a.. Self-motivated and able to work independently and as a member of a
team.
a.. Ability to plan and prioritize workload and meet deadlines on
multiple projects.
