Java Developer Internet Based Application Location : MI REPORTS TO: Manager, SW Development or Director, SW Development The developer’s primary role is to design, code, test, debug and analyze software programs and applications. Level III developers are expected to drive and contribute to researching, designing, documenting, and modifying software specifications throughout the production life cycle in areas with broad scope. The level III developer is expected to require little guidance and mentoring and heavily contributes to mentoring other developers. Level III developers are the backstop of the organization and are often called on to solve ‘hard problems’. These are the seasoned experts in the development process and possess superior technical and client domain knowledge which they leverage to help drive projects to completion. This position has a sphere of influence at the departmental level. Their focus is on supporting past projects, the current project team and the continuous improvement of the department as a whole. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & MEASURES: Work with business analysts, designers and other developers in conceptualizing and development of new software programs and applications. Guide and assist in the preparation and documentation of program requirements and specifications. Consistently write software components and applications according to specifications and industry standards with thorough code reviews and mentor others in this effort. Run and monitor software performance tests on new and existing programs for the purposes of correcting errors, isolating areas for improvement, and general debugging. Provide critical analysis of test results and deliver solutions to problem areas. Generate statistics and prepare and write reports for management and/or team members on the status of the project. Guide and assist in the development and maintenance of user manuals and guidelines. Completely understand and champion software development processes and technologies in the team. Guide and assist in debugging, software improvements and upgrades. Liaise with network administrators, systems analysts, database administrators and other software engineers to assist in resolving problems with client software products or software systems. ESSENTIAL SKILLS/TRAITS REQUIRED: Superior analytical and organizational skills and demonstrated ability to pay attention to details. Demonstrated ability to multi-task, establish priorities and meet tight deadlines. Ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment where high client expectations exist. A proven history of hands-on software troubleshooting experience. Flexible and adaptable in regards to learning and understanding new technologies. Strong written and oral communication skills. Good interpersonal skills. Highly self-motivated and self-directed. Superior analytical and problem-solving abilities. Proven ability to effectively execute tasks in a high-pressure environment. Extensive experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
