Position: Database Developer

Location: Albany, NY

Duration: 18 Months

Rate: Open

 

Please note that this is a 37 ½ hour work week.

 

Mandatory Requirements:

1.      Database administration 
2.      Microsoft SQL Server databases, version 5 or above
3.      Oracle 9i, 10g or 11g SQL databases
4.      Database design, testing, implementation, tuning, and administration 
5.      SQL programming language
6.      Database modeling
7.      Development of technical database documentation
8.      Experience in Oracle PL/SQL programming
9.      Experience in Microsoft SQL Server programming
10.     Ability to clearly and correctly communicate in both written and spoken 
English

 

Desirable Experience:

1.      Experience converting Microsoft SQL Server databases to Oracle.
2.      Experience with Oracle (BEA) Weblogic server connections configuration 
to Oracle.
3.      Experience with Oracle (BEA) Weblogic server connections configuration 
to Oracle in a RAC environment.

 

Description:

Database Developer (Programmer/Analyst II)

The contractor’s activities and responsibilities necessary to convert the 
database from Microsoft SQL Server to the DOH Oracle infrastructure include:

1.       Analyze existing database to prepare for transition from SQL Server to 
Oracle;

2.       Design and develop new database model in Oracle including changes 
based on best practices and normalization;

3.       Present database design to NYSDOH Database Administration managers for 
review and approval;

4.       Develop Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) process to convert and load 
data from SQL Server into Oracle;

5.       Coordinate activities with Lead Developer/Analyst to ensure the smooth 
transition and continuous functionality with the system before, during and 
after conversion of the backend database from SQL server to Oracle;

6.       Develop and implement Stored Procedures and other database coding to 
support functionality of and integration with .Net software;

7.       Develop and/or modify technical and/or design specifications, 
technical writing and documentation, including conceptual and physical data 
models. 

 

Duties:  Performs analysis and design of database(s), including data analysis, 
data access, data structures, data manipulation, and database(s) design, 
testing, implementation and administration.  The consultant creates physical 
database model(s) and develops required stored procedures to access 
database(s).  The consultant will be available to assist and/or lead in the 
design of program specifications and the implementation of software. 

Hours: The Database Developer will be required to work 37.5 hours per week for 
a period estimated to be 20 weeks.
