The device is a piece of custom hardware that will act as a gateway from the 3rd party interface of an existing fire alarm control panel to a TCP/IP network. *The candidate will be responsible for**:* • Setting up the build environment (toolchain) • Configuring the uClinux kernel for a Coldfire processor • Developing software to manage an Ethernet switch • Configuring the Ethernet switch for VLAN • Designing the gateway application and securing network communications (possibly using IPSec) • Writing interfaces to various peripherals on the custom hardware • Choosing an open source boot loader or possibly building a custom boot loader for the device The candidate will work closely with one other individual and will be part of a larger project team. The project team will have vast experience with the control panel software and will be depending on the contractor to make decisions associated with the networking portion of the project.
