The Manager, Global UNIX Systems and Storage Solutions is responsible for the direct support of the company’s ERP production, quality, and test systems with emphasis on the design, development, support, implementation and management of global UNIX Systems and related Storage Solutions. This position will lead a team whose primary responsibilities involve UNIX Systems and Storage Solutions design and implementation, backup and recovery, troubleshooting, planning and development, and support. Other responsibilities include optimizing system availability, functionality, security, and performance. In addition, this position will be responsible for planning major system installations and mentoring others in diagnosing and resolving complex hardware, software, and storage problems. This position will be the principal point of contact and the prime source of technical knowledge for UNIX Systems and Storage Solutions support. This includes having an advisory role for new purchases, installation and maintenance, software upgrades, licensing, and maintenance contracts. Position will manage a team of 3-4 technical support specialists, and will be accountable for alignment of priorities and resources with business direction, timeline and budget commitments. Essential Duties and Responsibilities · Lead the support of global UNIX Systems and Storage Solutions, which includes responsibility for all system and server maintenance, patch management, upgrades, new architecture design, and system security compliance, while adhering to established metrics. · Lead the global UNIX Systems and Storage Solutions team to achieve and maintain optimal systems stability and reliability. · Develop and maintain storage and backup standards for the company. · Troubleshoot technical problems as they arise; design and implement long term solutions. · Conduct performance and capacity planning. · Monitor, reconfigure, and tune hardware, software, and storage for performance improvements and future scalability. · Perform and document UNIX systems and storage operations processes and procedures including installation and testing of system upgrades, fail over, and configuration documentation. · Manage the day to day operations of the data center to ensure proper power, cooling, and capacity. · Communicate issues clearly to business and technical groups within the company. · Develop and manage proactive and reliable processes for systems’ maintenance and upgrades. · Plan and participate in scheduled off-hours service outage upgrades. · Provide UNIX Systems and Storage metrics on a monthly basis. · Enforce system and network security procedures. · Support efforts to increase responsiveness and decrease time-to-deliver robust business solutions to business partners and external customers and suppliers. · Partner with peers and vendors to deliver solutions on time and within budget. · Prioritize resources and projects in support of and in response to business requests and appropriate strategic initiatives of the company. · Establish, grow and enhance collaborative relationships with peers to explore opportunities and alternatives to meet business needs. · Establish, grow and enhance collaborative relationships with global business partners, including the subsidiaries, to assure optimal service levels are being provided to the business and that enterprise changes to our desktop platforms are well communicated, collaborated and supported. · Support evaluation and selection of new technologies and subsequent additions to our production environment. · Demonstrate strong project management skills; ability to manage multiple projects/solutions for multiple requestors; oversee all UNIX Systems and Storage projects. · Mentor/develop/motivate staff of technical resources. · Manage internal/external resources as “virtual” project teams. · Communicate status of projects and initiatives to all levels of business and IT/e-Business management. · Participate in the establishment and enforcement of best-practice work processes and standards. · Prepare and consolidate UNIX Systems and Storage Solutions portfolio to appropriately support business needs. · Implement and use metrics to continuously improve on quality and efficiency of solutions and to validate business value delivered. · Maintain, update, and review system standards and procedures to ensure systems SOX audit and compliance. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities · Strong technical background with UNIX operating systems, hardware, network design, systems security, Enterprise storage and backup systems. · Experienced with high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) systems, concepts, and procedures. · Strong knowledge of EMC, Hitachi or IBM disk arrays. · Strong knowledge of AIX and Linux operating systems. · Strong management and leadership skills: people, process and technology. · Experience with virtualization concepts and technologies, preferably with VMWare. · Experienced with Storage Area Networks (SAN) technologies. · Demonstrated achievement of relationship excellence with business partners at all levels and from varying cultures around the world. · Experience with cross-functional business processes and administrative operations for consumer products or global manufacturing company. · Superior interpersonal communication skills; flexibility; responsiveness. · Must demonstrate superior conceptual reasoning skills and discretionary judgment. · Diverse background with broad knowledge of solution platforms, custom development, package implementations. · Participative management style, advocate team-based concepts. · Extensive experience with global customer service for consumer products or manufacturing company. · Experience in IT management, particularly in global companies with centralized ERP implementations and enterprise-wide solutions. · Experience with different operational methodologies, models, and processes. Education and/or Experience · Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related degree, or equivalent work experience, required · Minimum 8 years system administration/network experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment. · Minimum 4 years managing an ERP environment running UNIX and Oracle. · SAP Basis management experience preferred.
