Location: Houston, TX
Contract: 6+ Months
Start Date: Nov 10th
Qualifications: Must have Windows, Linux, Peoplesoft, Oracle and SQL Server
Experience and Skills:
. Bachelor's Degree in computer science or Business (Must have)
. Windows & Linux environments
PeopleSoft
. Ability to understand and clearly relate to other
members of the organization, technical manuals, software specifications,
hardware principals of operations, and general methods of systems software
operations and database management techniques
Training:
. Microsoft and/or Oracle DBA Certification (Must have)
Responsibilities:
. Review database designs for integration with existing and
planned databases, compliance with standards, and effective use of software
features. This usually includes a review of the database design of software
packages prior to purchase and all upgrades to existing software as well as
all in-house developed databases.
. Provide for efficient, reliable backup and recovery of all
databases. Install, upgrade and maintain database backup and recovery
software. This includes developing backup/recovery plans and enforcing
retention policies, creating jobs, scheduling and monitoring.
. Maintain storage requirements (DASD) for all databases. Provide
recommendation into the purchase of additional servers, memory, CPU`s, and
DASD. Determine necessary configuration for installation and communicate
this information to the system administrator. Responsibilities also include
performance analysis and load balancing of databases across DASD and
servers.
. Maintain the security environment for all databases. This
includes implementing security requests for each database. Duties also
include providing information to internal and external auditors and
trouble-shooting access problems.
. Knowledge and experience with data management software such as
ORACLE Network Manager(ONames), Erwin, Backup tools for ORACLE and SQL
Server, and DBArtisan.
. Enforce Corporate Standards across all databases and database
servers. Responsible for Database Change Management by ensuring that all
requests for change to a database are documented, approved and implemented
the same across all levels of the database (development, test, and
production).
. Provide technical support to all other DBAs, Programmers, Systems
Administrators, Desktop Support, Help Desk, Security, Management, and Users
as needed. Keep abreast of changes in database technology. Plan for future
upgrades and enhancements. This includes trouble-shooting technical and
performance problems with client connectivity, applications, reports, and
databases. Assist in conflict resolution. Initiate pro-active changes to
assist in preventing problems.
Description:
Provide technical support for all application databases. Support includes
effective design, implementation, upgrade, maintenance, performance,
security, backup and recovery of all Sqlserver and Oracle data sources.
These databases are operating on multiple releases of the database software
and on various releases of operating systems including Windows and Linux.
The position reports to the manager of Database Administration within the IT
service line.
