We have Unix & Windows Storage positions available Locations: Various (CA, TX, VA, OH, GA, NY, NJ, MA, OR, TN) Duration: 12 months+ Rate: Best Possible The Storage Administrator/Engineer is challenged with designing and supporting rapidly changing technical storage infrastructures which will provide a solid foundation for production applications for our clients. This will include the development of enterprise storage architectures; Researching trends and technologies in the storage industry; and Implementing tape backup/archiving and rotation strategies. The Storage Administrator will formulate procedures for the implementation and operation of the solutions they generate so that they can be performed consistently and meet understood objectives. These solutions will cover daily operational tasks (i.e., SAN zoning, storage allocation, equipment installation) and data integrity tasks (i.e., monitoring data replication, ensuring business continuance volumes are intact, backing up volumes, etc.). In addition, time will need to be spent developing and employing capacity planning and monitoring techniques so that the storage environment can be accurately modeled and reported upon. Primary Responsibilities Perform routine capacity planning tasks for storage assets (i.e., storage frames, SAN switches, etc.), generate reports showing the utilization of storage assets, and provide documentation of storage environment (i.e., policies and procedures, problem resolution techniques, etc.) Maintaining the current storage environments (i.e., coordinating with the vendors to apply patches and firmware updates, scheduling hardware maintenance procedures with users of the systems, etc.) Maintain and manage the tape backup and recovery infrastructure and integrate it into a total data availability solution. Installation, activation, and integration of new storage assets into the Kaplan storage infrastructure Developing new architectures and performing research and analysis on emerging storage technologies Ensuring data integrity processes are maintained and that data backup/recovery operations are successfully executed Work with various system administration teams with our clients and across the enterprise to understand and meet their storage and SAN needs (i.e., fulfilling zone requests, adding/removing volumes, etc.) Unix: Red Hat Linux and Solaris production experience Experience with Windows in also needed Experience with Veritas Products (Net backup, VCS, VxVM) SAN: Storage hardware (Hitachi AMS 1000/2000, Hitachi Lightning 9900, SUN, EMC Clariion , EMC Celerra, 3PAR etc**) HBA (Qlogic, Emulex, JNI, etc**) Configuring HBAs on Linux/Unix/Windows McData IPRouter Tape Devices (ADIC, Quantum, Overland, etc...) SAN switches (McData, Brocade, Cisco, Nishan) TCP/IP, Fibre Channel, FCIP, iFCP, etc. EMC software (Navisphere, PowerPath, Celerra Manager, MirrorView, SnapView, etc**) Understanding of various RAID levels and which levels are appropriate for various workloads Performance tuning and capacity planning fundamental Qualifications 5-15 years experience Experience with storage hardware (disk arrays, NAS, etc,), SAN switches (McData, Cisco, Brocade, etc.), storage management software, storage protocols (FCIP, iSCSI, fibre channel, etc.), and HBAs (Emulex, qLogic, etc.) Experience with Hitachi & EMC hardware Understanding and Experience with Enterprise type tape backup and recovery hardware and software. Understand the dependencies of various platforms and their storage needs Understand project management and control Ability to communicate ideas and problem solutions Ability to effectively work with people in other departments and/or outside of the enterprise Experience in systems administration, implementation, and management Must be open to 50-100% travel/relocation within the Unites States and Canada.
